• Mother’s Day Gift Guide

    1.  |  2.  |  3.  |  4.  |  5.

I can’t believe how soon Mother’s Day got here. It just felt like we were celebrating Valentine’s Day not too long ago. I love showering my mommy with gifts because I know she loves it. She loves getting spoiled and I honestly love giving. If I can make her happy, I don’t mind it at all!

She can be a little tricky to buy for because she really just wants a little of everything. This year I had a bigger present in mind for her, but that will have to wait until my parent’s are able to move into their home. For the meantime, I might get her a couple of different items because I know she loves more than one present! Is anyone’s mommy like that as well? I think it just might be mine, she’s special but I feel like mothers work so hard that no present will ever thank them enough for all they do.

My mom absolutely loves these lotions from Bath and Body Works. She will purchase so many just to have them in stock. I might just pick up another set just to make her happy. She also loves Princess House pots and pans. Although the ones in the picture aren’t from that brand she still is obsessed with them. Does anyone else’s mom love and collects pots and pans?

Overall, these five items are things I know my mom likes and would use. It’s hard to find the perfect gift for your mom because everyone has such different tastes. However, I hope with these ideas you can get some inspiration to purchase something special for your mommy! Please feel free to comment down below what you are getting your mom, I would love to hear more suggestions.

  • College/High School Graduation Outfit Ideas

Planning out your graduation outfit can be easy or you could be that one person finding your outfit the night before. I’m sure we’ve all done that! I wanted to share with you some outfit ideas for graduation, whether you’re graduating from college or high school. I suggest looking through your closet and seeing if you have similar items to this. I don’t suggest purchasing something you’re only going to wear once, that’s no fun. I love wearing pieces I’ve already worn and mixing them up.

black and white skirt & denim top

I like loose fitted skirts because they are a little bit more comfortable than the tight fitted dress. Personally, if your gown is a dark color, most likely no one will see what’s underneath…which is good! However I think the black and white on this skirt make a huge difference in the outfit. It’s not an over exaggerated outfit, but it’s still cute for the spring time. I always choose a thick heel when walking in grass because a pointy heel just calls for disaster.

    Lace Dress

I think this is something I would wear personally. If you are graduating and it will be warm you want to make sure you don’t wear a long sleeve dress. This dress is perfect for the occasion because it’s a spring and summer dress that isn’t too casual nor too professional, it’s like the perfect middle. I also a big fan of details and this dress for sure stands out with the detailing.

    Romper

Many of you have probably seen this romper before, but I think it’s perfect for graduation as well. Actually, I think I did purchase this last year for graduation now that I think about it! I do recommend wearing a romper because it’s a one piece and makes it really easy to pick and choose when shopping. I have not even worn this romper out in public, but it would be great for graduation. The only downside of wearing rompers is having to take it off when you go to the restroom, other than that it’s a great option! I recommend purchasing a bright colored one. However, I love this one.

    Flowy Dress

Okay this dress is beautiful, but you have to be careful with it being a little see through. Besides that, It is such a statement dress that screams spring and summer. I love the detail in the back! If you were to take pictures without your gown and just your cap, this dress would be perfect. Oh how I wish I was graduating! (haha) I purchased mine years back from SheIn, but never wore it in public. I feel like I do that a lot. I should at least show you some of the things I purchase…oh maybe a haul?

So that sums up my college/HS graduation outfit ideas. I hope you guys liked these types of posts. It makes me reminisce high school graduation and how fun that was. I still can’t believe that was almost 5 years ago, FIVE!! Time goes by so quickly, and everything I had planned didn’t go that way but instead I realized that everything that happens has a reason. For those that have graduated and walked the stage for college, is it even more fun? Ahh, let me know, I would love to hear! I have attended college graduations before and they are so long, but they are so worth it! Congratulations to all you Spring 2017 Graduates! I hope you accomplish all your endeavors in life.

  • How Important is Education to Me?

Let’s just start off by saying, this is such a touchy subject for a lot of people. I don’t mind if someone is against it or for it. However, I want to give you my personal experience and what I think. My own personal opinion arrives from my family and I’s experiences.

I do want to mention that I am a first generation college student. I may have been the first, but I guarantee you I won’t be the last. I dreamed of college when I was only 8. I wanted to have a really well paid job and help my family own their own business and be of some sort of support. I love my family and I know it is NOT my responsibility to take care of them, and they don’t ask me to do that either. But I’m Patty, and if you know me, you know I love helping.

I was very fortunate to be able to go to college and that was not easy at all. Here is a blog post all about that. So in my younger days, I did feel like it was important to go to college. If you didn’t go it meant you either couldn’t or you just didn’t care about learning. My mentality has changed significantly since then. Education is something so powerful, beyond just sitting in class and taking a test. If you are learning about something you are passionate about, you are LEARNING. Education is something that won’t depreciate and no one can take that away from me you or what you learned. That is yours forever! This is why I see it as being important because it’s like a gift.

But just like it is a gift, it also means that some people will receive that gift and some won’t. It could be for a variety of reasons, money, no desire, etc. Because there is someone that didn’t receive that gift, that does not mean they are less than you are. On the contrary, people may not get to sit in a classroom and learn but they get to learn in a different way through life and their occupation. My mom and dad do not have an education past the third and sixth grade. You might be a little surprised that that is even allowed, but it is, in Mexico it was. However, my mom is so knowledgeable about cooking, overcoming obstacles, and so much more. Yes, she struggles to write her name or respond in English, but she teaches me these lessons without having some form of education. My father knows so much about agriculture (about 30 years), motivation, and he even learned how to speak English without even getting to the 7th grade. My parents represent the importance of not having an education but being educated in another way. Tell me why the lack of education that they had, should be something that someone should belittle them for?

Education is great, and I took advantage of the gift my parents didn’t have, by attending UNR. I will continue to keep learning because I am passionate to keep growing, but my education isn’t any greater than my parents. My dad doesn’t need a Ph.D. to be accepted in society and I don’t need to go to school if it isn’t for me. These are choices we all make, but they don’t represent if we are successful or not. I would much rather be rich in knowledge from life lessons, than have a piece of paper, but I go to school because I am passionate about it. It’s important for me to keep learning, but that doesn’t mean I’m any better than my parents are.

Please comment down below if you are going to school and what you are majoring in, I’d love to hear!

  • WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR BLOG NAME FROM?

This is a question I am always curious about when I find a new blogger. I know I share a little about where my blog name originated from on my About Me page, but I will go more into detail of how it came about. I originally started my blog in November of 2015. I am almost to two years, crazy huh?

I had been wanting to start a blog for a really long time before I had the guts to do it. I actually had started a blog when I was going to go to China to study abroad. That was epic fail because China restricts pretty much everything. There are ways around it, but to be honest, my trip wasn’t even 100% planned out the way it should have. I can do a whole other blog post on how to better prepare to study abroad in China, specifically.

My first ever blog post! (November 2015)

Anyways, let’s get back to the topic. So I had always thought about starting a blog and wondered what would I even name it. I always knew I didn’t want to use my name because my real name is Patricia but everyone calls me Patty, and I might not always be a Guerrero (if I get married). So this always posed a question on what I would call my blog. The night I decided to start my blog, I actually had watched a video from Chrisspy. It completely inspired me to quit waiting and start doing. I have so many plans, but I won’t be closer to accomplishing them if I just sit there and think about them without doing anything. I decided to open up my computer and just DO IT.

I had already done some research about how to start a blog. So then I thought, I want something catchy for my blog name, but also not so cheesy. I knew I wanted the word “closet” in it because that’s how my everything began. Everyone would always compliment my clothes and wardrobe. I knew I also always dreamed of having those sweet walk-in closets that I would see on Pinterest. So then I combined all of my ideas together and My Sweetest Closet emerged.

I don’t just want to share outfits on my blog because it isn’t the only form of inspiration I seek to share. I want to motivate and inspire people through other kind of content, like fitness, cooking, my personal stories, and ultimately my life. Some people always debate about making sure you have a very specific niche you want to pursue. But, I’m the complete opposite. I have a lot of interest for several things and want to be able to share that. Especially since the blog post with the biggest traffic has never even been a fashion blog post, on the contrary, people view my posts more if I share my personal stories.

I want to create content that truly motivates people, whether that is through an outfit idea or a struggle I overcame in my life. My Sweetest Closet is just that, a sweet closet that opens up the doors for all of us to inspire. If you want to see a video that goes a little more in depth about what My Sweetest Closet has to offer, check that out here.

  • Olive Green Jacket

    [slideshow_deploy id=’1776′]

I wanted to share with you a casual work outfit that I wore this week. I know most professional occupations do not allow you to wear jeans. Although, there are some that do and they must not have any holes or rips on them. My job allows us to dress casual and at times I do miss wearing professional outfits but then at the same time I’m so thankful because I couldn’t imagine not being allowed to wear jeans. I do sometimes wish we were allowed to wear ripped jeans, but that can just wait for my weekend wear. I can’t ask for too much, right?

My jeans were super affordable from Nordstrom. I want to say they were around less than $50 when I got them on their annual big sale. It is coming up again, and everyone better be ready because they have some great products at affordable prices that you won’t want to miss out on. I especially like purchasing items for the fall because they are on sale before the season begins.

This outfit is super easy to recreate because the top and bottoms are items most of us have in our closet. I actually own a lot of olive green jackets, and I feel like if you don’t have one, you are missing out. I purchased mine a couple of years ago from Styles for Less. It is such an easy item to recreate with different pieces. I also think this outfit would be great with some Nikes and a hat.
